They say your eyes are the window to your soul but if you ask me, it is one of the best accessories to your personal style. Maybe because there are so many ways you can alter your appearance nowadays, there is just something so personal and true about people’s eyes that carry so much emotion and history. While some people are blessed with big round eyes and thick lashes that curl juts right, some of us rely a little more on tips and tricks to enhance this mirror of our souls. Here is a little pointer on how best to complement what our ancestors gave us – our eye color.
Brown eyes (famous brown eyed beauties include Natalie Portman, Jessica Alba, Mila Kunis)
My fellow brown eyed beauties are lucky because we can be as adventurous as we want with our eye makeup due to the neutral color of our eyes. For an everyday look, go for a warm earth tone like bronze or olive, and even peach to complement the neutral tone. To make a statement however, we can get away with more or less anything because brown doesn’t clash with any other color. Jewel tones with a little bit of gold shimmer work great to bring out a bit of color in our dark eyes. My personal favorite?Teal.
Blue eyes (famous blue eyed beauties include Jennifer Lawrence, Taylor Swift, Megan Fox)
With striking blue eyes come with a little less space for play when it comes to eye makeup, but that doesn’t mean you can’t have some fun! For an everyday look, you can either choose a warm color that blends in with your skin color, or go with a more subtle, deeper cool color to complement the blue eyes like gray or taupe. The key here is to let the beautiful color of your eyes shine. For the days that you want them to pop and not blend, a color with pink or purple undertone is a nice contrast to blue eyes.
Green eyes (famous green eyed beauties include Kristen Stewart, Rihanna, Angelina Jolie)
Green eyed beauties get the best of both worlds – enough colors to play with, but subtle enough to be quite adventurous with. The color purple has been universally accepted as the one to make green eyes pop. For an everyday look, try neutral colors with a hint of purple, think the color of red wine or taupe. For special occasions, you can go all out with all types of purple, like deep plum. Green eyes usually have hints of gold in them as well, so a bit of gold or shimmer works great too.
Hazel eyes (famous hazel eyed beauties include Sofia Vergara, Dianna Agron, Rachel McAdams)
If you can’t describe someone’s eye color, it is probably hazel. It is somewhere between green and brown, with a little bit of gray and a little bit of gold. So the best make up for hazel eyed beauties really depends on which part of hazel you want to play up. If you want to bring out the green in them, follow the green eyes rule of purple. If you want the gold hue to stand out and enhance the lightness of your eyes, try a brighter shade of brown like amber. The one rule of thumb with hazel eyes though, is to stay away from any pale colors, which can wash out the gorgeous color of hazel. Shimmer is also your best friend.
Remember that your eyes are gorgeous and these are just guidelines on what works. Have fun with it and don’t be afraid to experiment!
